In trying to play all of the courses within 1 hour of my house (340) this one got picked this morning.
This local favorite track plays 6,064yds / 69.1 / 118 / Par 35/36 built in 1956 is a hidden Public gem. Though short on yardage it makes up for smaller sized raised greens that roll true (8-9), being protected by "Soft Fluffed" sand traps that make it a joy to hit out of. I stopped the grounds person and told him and told him what a great job he was doing as I don't see this being done on the better courses I play.
Fairways are mowed and shaped with good landing areas, hardwood lined trees, having forced carries of 100-150yds which makes it more visual appealing. No weeds/clover or burn spots are to be found anywhere on the course and I took a few excursions into the rough to verify these conditions. Yardage markers are the painted blocks in the fairways (100-200) and no Par 3 yardage block.
I was told that the course got new owners in 2015 (Whiteford Valley GC complex) and they put money in getting conditions back first and then start working on other cart/clubhouse items.
I shot 36/41 w/34 putts on this cool Saturday morning paying $24 w/cart in my 2.5hr loop. My most memorable hole would be #12 / 540yds / Par 5 with the severe rolling fairway into a nicely tipped (3 putt) green, that I will hit to the RH side no matter where the pin is located next time.
If traveling through this area, don't let the short yardage stop you from enjoying great conditions, established tree lined rolling layout on this Local favorite course.
Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Ranks with the best in this price level, Best course in the area
Condition of Course, Price, Pace of Play, Ambiance, Staff, Layout, No Houses on Course
